Pool Filtration Controller

Project type

Controls

Date

January - April 2023

Location

Queen's University

In my 3rd year, I was given a project in which myself along with my group was tasked with designing a controller for a black box system. Before the project began, we were already put at a relative disadvantage. While most groups in the class contained 5 students, my group had 4, one of whom was an exchange student from England who had not taken a controls course, and hence did not have the mathematical knowledge to understand what needed to be done.

This initial constraint far from prohibited us from completing the project, rather it motivated us to crank out the best result that we could, and in the end it paid off. The notion of a feed-forward loop was not taught to us, but we found it as a result of our research into potential improvements we could make. This resulted in us outperforming the project targets by a large margin, and was only achieved through the hard work and research we did as a team. The system output graphic is pictured.
